WHO WE ARE
The Soil and Water Conservation Society (SWCS) is a nonprofit scientific and educational organization that serves as an advocate for conservation professionals and for science-based conservation practice, programs, and policy. Society members include researchers, administrators, planners, policymakers, technical advisers, teachers, students, farmers and ranchers. Our members come from nearly every academic discipline and many different public, private and nonprofit institutions.

MISSION
Our mission is to foster the science and art of natural resource conservation. Our work targets conservation of soil, water, and related natural resources on working land - land used to produce food, fiber and environmental services that improve the quality of life that people experience in rural and urban communities. The mission of the Michigan Chapter includes:
- Promoting research, experimentation, demonstrations and other technical work in soil and water conservation.
- Stimulating communication among professional workers in soil and water conservation for mutual exchange of knowledge, facts and experience.
- Promoting and providing opportunities for professional development training in the science and art of soil, water and related renewable natural resource conservation and managment to achieve sustainability.
- Sustaining the ethic and spirit of professionalism among conservationists through networking and mutual support.
